You Have The Right To Remain Stylish!

Not that I am endorsing anyone publicly but if you had to choose the next president based on the style of the First Lady, Cindy McCain gets it handsdown! All jokes aside, when was the last time we had any style in the White House? Jackie Kennedy?

Now go ahead and make fun of me, but whenever Sen. John McCain is on the television, I look for his wife in the background to see what she's wearing. I know!!!!! My priorities aren't straight. I bet she has a kick ass shoe collection.

Busy Bee

Girl20craft I was working my not-so-little toosh last night getting ready for my Grand Re-Opening on Monday.   I put a few things together that I'm pretty happy with.  I really feel like I've found my nitch and look forward to seeing what more I bring out.  My stuff is definitely more catered to the younger crowd and Punk Rock Mom's who don't want to grow up. :) I'll be working on more stuff throughout the week.  I didn't want to do it all in one night.

I want to keep this blog light-hearted but I wanted to express some thoughts on what is going on with the current election. There has been a lot of pressure for the last 4 years to already choose the next president. I know we are dying to get the current administration out of office but let's stop and think here for a minute.  Let's not make the same mistake we made before.  As of right now, I don't like any of the candidates. I lost track of who supports what a long time ago.  I need to get back into the game and read up on where these folks stand with issues that are important to me.  Then again, is it how they REALLY feel? All these folks flip-flop depending on who is in the room.  This really sucks.  I wish I could go back to the days of being a kid when things like this didn't mean anything to me.

I will say that I am concerned about the "young/first-time" voters who are jumping on the Obama wagon.  I hate how easily manipulated they are by the media. Journalist will use terms like "Rockstar reception" and they just eat it up saying "Yeah! He's young like us! I'm voting for him!" Um no, he's closer to my age than yours and I don't think I can relate to him.   Besides being charasmatic, he hasn't shown me anything.

Honestly, if I can mesh John Edwards and Mike Huckabee into one Huckawards creature, I would. Either way, I'm still skeptical about everyone.

I'm just confuzzled!

Baby_cheEarlier this month was the 40th anniversary of the death of Ernesto Guevara, or "Che".  Who???? That guy on the shirt!!! OOOOH!!! Yes, I refuse to believe that all the teenagers and young folk who wear a shirt, carry a bag, wear a patch of his face actually KNOW who he is.

I read the BEST editorial today in the local paper, here are some excerpts from it:

For someone responsible for so many deaths, it’s ironic Guevara got his nickname by calling those around him pal or “che.” But even more ironic are hipsters who proudly wear Che T-shirts as if privy to some political knowledge average Americans are too stupid to grasp.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Che’s death, I propose donating a copy of “Economics for Dummies” to every caviar-communist and hipster/artist sporting a Che Guevara T-shirt. Maybe if they understood the simple basics of how free markets promote human dignity much more effectively than imposing an egalitarian society through violence, they’d think twice before getting behind another totalitarian sociopath.

If you're interested in reading the whole piece, click here, it's the piece called "Che What?"

Then I read another article about China threatening the US over the Dalai Lama's visit and it makes my head spin.  Issues like these make me wish I could stop the world and jump off.  China has failed SO many times in making HH out to be some trouble-making, nutjob...that would be Che. Dalai Lama=Good Guy, Che Guevara=not so good.  Or to geek it up a notch if you're into X-Men......Dalai Lama is Professor Xavier while Che is Magneto....only Che is dead so there goes that.

So in the interest of making a quick buck, I added some stuff to the Etsy Shop.

Off the subject of Etsy, this week's issue of Newsweek has a G-R-E-A-T My Turn essay, Stop Setting Alarms on My Biological Clock. I think every woman needs to read it, actually men too because there are definitely some overwhelming father's out there as well that don't have a clue. I might have mentioned this before but I do not plan on having children and this essay sites a few of the reasons why. The author is not anti-children, she wants to have some of her own one day but she is putting that on hold until some changes are made.

McJob?

Barbie20doll_2

Fast-food giant McDonald's has launched a petition to get the dictionary definition of a McJob changed.

I'm just amazed that the word "McJob" is even in the Oxford English Dictionary.  I never even heard of the word until just 2 minutes before posting this.  I'm baffled.  That is kind of messed up too, I don't think working at McDonalds is an unstimulating low-paid job with few prospects. Think about it, it teaches how to work in a team, deal with a diverse group of people, working under A LOT of pressure, and it can certainly lead to bigger prospects like a gig in the corporate office.  No I'm not kidding, I'm dead serious!

I still wouldn't eat the stuff and avoid their chain like the plague but hey I'm willing to give the folks who work at these places a little bit of credit.  I will even dare say that I prefer them over postal workers, that's right.  Have you been to the post office lately? Can they move any slower?????

Now to something unrelated, look what I got from Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist

Image from A Fanciful Twist

Isn't that the funkiest shopping tote ever??? The photo is actually hers, I didn't take a picture of mine but it's the same thing.  I need to put some goodies together for her because she is just a sweetie. I also have a little package I'd like to put together for another blogger who shall remain nameless, surprise!!!!

VT Shooting

I didn't want to bring this up since once again the media is seriously going overboard with the coverage of the shooting.  I'm not cold hearted. I think it's terrible and the first day I was glued to the TV to find out what was going on.  A few days have passed and this morning while watching the Today Show was the first time I got annoyed with the media, where I thought, "Alright, now you're just being stupid." with their little segments, Coming up next, how to tell if your teenager is suffering from Depression.  If 50something years of having psychobabble drilled into our brains from a plethora of sources telling us about signs of depression doesn't tell you, then you shouldn't be a parent because you're clueless!

It's information overload now.  Let us put under a microscope every kid and teenager who seems a little different from others.  Just to be on the safe side, lets pop some pills in them just to make sure they don't anything stupid. Sure.  I know the way a lot of people think and it's pretty stupid.  Plus, a lot of parents nowadays are soooo self-absorbed in their own lives that they don't even pick up on warning signs when it's right under their nose.  Mom is too busy spending money to look young and dad is working 14 hours a day to make the money for mom to spend.

What makes this whole thing even more dispicable is now they're continuously showing the killers photos, videos, and ramblings sent to NBC.  Don't they realize the damage they are doing just from showing this over and over? They're asking for copycats.   This kid was a copycat!

Do you watch sports? Pro-wrestling?  Do you see what happens when a fan gets on the field or jumps in the ring? The camera cuts away immediately. You don't really see the scuffle between them and security. Why? Because they don't want to encourage this behavior from other pathetic losers dumb enough to do this.  And believe me they are out there! I guess it's different for news programs. Are network executives that evil?  Are they HOPING for more copycats to come out just to give them more meat to chew on? It just makes me shake my head.

You just can't make this up

Goat Sudan man forced to 'marry' goat

A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife" after he was caught having sex with the animal.

I cannot even come up with something whitty to say here.   I'm too floored by this story.  Why is this man alive? That is just cruel! He's obviously disturbed and forcing him to marry a goat is probably the least of his worries. Yikes!

Another animal cruelty related thought, I started watching "Fat Pets" on Animal Planet last night and became so upset that I had to change the channel.  The two cases I saw were blatant cases of harming the pet, in this case dogs. The owners SAY they love their dogs but insist on feeding them stuff like cake and chocolate!  Mind you, the owners looked like they were about to drop dead themselves being pretty sloppy looking.  I just got so mad because I want a dog so badly but I'm unable to get one at this time and to see others just treat their dogs like toys or lazy little children just makes me wanna shake the hell out of them. Ok, end rant.

But, um, yeah, my Ebay Auctions are still going on.  Go get yourself a cute pair of earrings.

US Marines prohibit large tattoos

U.S. Marines Prohibit large tattoos I first read this last night and saw more about it on the news this morning. This struck such a nerve with me for a couple of reasons.

1)I have a few tattoos, my boyfriend has some pretty big tattoos, a lot of my friends are heavily tattoo, we are not bad people.  Doesn't anyone watch Miami Ink? Tattoos do not equal immoral people anymore.  Sure some bad folks have tattoos but there are bad folks without them too.  It is 2007 where chances are, YOUR MOM has a tattoo!  Everyone is getting them, it's not taboo anymore.  Then again, I live in New York where it's pretty liberal with the self-expression.

2)The military is in no position to turn people away from joining right now.  It's bad enough they're not allowing openly admitted homosexuals to serve, but now they'll restrict someone for having a Nightmare Before Christmas sleeve?

"Anyone caught with fresh ink in the wrong places could face up to two years in prison."

Two years?? Does anyone else think this is absolutely absurd???

Need a break?

You know you need a break from your webpage when you're trying to do your 5-minute meditation in the morning and the same thought pops into your head, I need a new banner for my site. Sad, very sad. But I do. I'm never happy with my banners. Everyone else's always looks so much nicer than mine. On the other hand I'm still in this uncreative funk I can't seem to shake. You know when you want to do stuff but you can't bring yourself to actually DO IT. The weekend is the perfect time to work on stuff but instead I just wanna lounge around and veg-out. It's this cold weather I think. It makes me want to stay under covers all the time.

Wow! I just came across this sad story Five-year old girl dies in horrifying rodeo parade accident. My goodness! Ok this was a freak accident but I think it just adds to the greater picture of the whole young girl beauty pageant phenomenon in this country. It is beyond disturbing. I think Little Miss Sunshine did a good portrayl of that. 5 years old! No one should put their child on display like that. So sad. Sorry to end this post on such a downer.

More frustration

MySpace is sued over child safety

Just another example of parents not wanting to be held accountable for keeping a better eye on their children.  You know, I'm getting pretty tired of this.  Recently, a boy was killed in Long Island because he was hit by a Long Island Railroad train.  The parents wanted to sue the MTA for not having a fence in the outdoor station to keep people off the tracks.   Oh, did I forget to mention that the kid snuck into the station to vandalize the walls, 'tag up' if you will.  This was a teenager who should have known better.  The MTA is not responsible for babysitting your kid and neither is MySpace Tom.  Teach your daughters not to be so whoreish and practice better judgement and we wouldn't have these problem.  The more advanced technology gets, the dumber human beings become.  That's all.

Last Night's Speech

I wanted to share some thoughts on Pres. Bush's speech last night. The man is going to get us all killed!!!  He reminds me of Homer Simpson (only less lovable). You know how when Homer breaks something, he'll try to repair it but only makes it even worse? That's this president.  Iraq wasn't a paradise before we invaded, I understand that, but holy shit did we go in there and makes a mess out of everything didn't we? So here comes Bush, Don't worry I'm gonna fix it! Lets send 21,000+ MORE troops, it's gonna work this time! You can almost hear the collected "Aaaghhh!!" across the country. Threats to Iran and Syria don't help either.  Now we have China telling us to stay out of their gas deal with Iran. That's just great!

Americans need to choose very, very wisely in 2008. It's not just a matter of "Hooray Bush is out of office!" and dance in the streets. The next person has to be capable enough to clean up this mess and try to start over again. Some people seem to be forgetting about that. All they want to talk about is Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Rudy Guilianni, John McCain, yeah they're all political celebrities, the Golden Boys (and Girl) of the Democrats and Republicans, but are they REALLY capable of cleaning this up? Clinton? Hell friggin' no. Obama? He has ZERO foreign policy experience and lacks experience in general. Guilianni? He can come across as a bit of a tyrant himself (even though I still like him). McCain? Maaaaybe only because he's the only one with a military background and knows what its like to be in combat. Bush was right about one thing, its gonna get a lot worse before it gets better.

How timely that I watched this the other night:

I don't get Showtime, so I Netflix the Masters of Horror series. "Homecoming" was a bit cheesy but you get it and it's a direct jab at the president and those who support him.

Let's Get Physical!

Nastiness going on at Equinox Fitness

Ew! I use to go Equinox Gym in Columbus Circle.  Yikes! I never saw anything fishy but then again, I'm a woman so why would I be in the men's locker room? Also, just this morning NBC News did a piece about about what to look for in joining a gym. It's STILL not obvious for a lot of folks that you can easily get ripped off. That and a gym will never be truly clean so protect yourself! I see people not wipe down the seats after using it, or not using a towel to cover a bench before using.  Yuck yuck yuck.  People really need to stop being slobs. The again, the cleaning people aren't complaining about sweat..EW! I guess it's good that I don't go to that gym anymore.

Tonight I'll be take a yoga class, my first yoga class of the year, and my first class after a two month hiatus.  I hope I don't suck.  I have to admit, and it's very un-yogic of me to say this, but I was developing a pretty kick-ass practice until some stuff happened and I had to stop for a while.  With the new year I plan to get back into the swing of things and focus on ME.  Not in the selfish way, but in a healthy way where I need to put myself first sometimes for everyone else's benefit as well as my own and yoga is one way for me to do that.  It helps me stay centered.

Another way is reading about Buddhism. I LOVE learning about Buddhism although I still say I don't feel comfortable calling myself a Buddhist.  I understand a lot of folks use the term very loosely where it's almost a joke and I really don't want to be one of those people. I was also doing a lot of reading before moving into my new apartment and I fell off. I gotta get back on the Buddha Boat again.   I don't think I'll be writing much about Buddhism here, stuff like that I leave for my livejournal.

Time Person Of The Year

Time The 2006 Time Person of the Year is you! Me? Us? We! Why thank you, I'm honored.  Actually, I have mixed feelings about the choice this year.  The popularity of MySpace and YouTube have a lot to do with this decision.  The news media is pretty one-sided and they don't give us the news we really want to hear (we honestly don't care about celebrity babies and Paris Hilton).  They just provide fluff with a touch of truth for a bit of flavor but it's not the whole story. Regular folks have taken it upon themselves to get the truth out there with blogs, videos, etc.  Of course, with this power comes a lot of idiots who prefer to share a whole lot of nothing and tape themselves doing their best Jackass stunt.

The music industry is at it's worst. The record companies force feed garbage down our throats and don't seem to recognize real talent.  Ok, MySpace can get annoying with the friend requests from bands that you wouldn't care to listen to but at least they're trying. It's an excellent tool to promote yourself (and free!).  MySpace can be a bit scary with the underage sluts whoring themselves out there and the shirtless jocks showing off their steroid-pumped pecks, but I ignore all of that and stick to my little corner of the MS world and have gotten really acquainted with the "deny" button.   I have made some cool friends, gotten in touch with old ones, and have gained some great networking out of it.  So MySpace can be evil only if you're stupid enough to make it evil.

This is pretty cold

I really  need to vent here. I watched a story on the news last night about another person shot and killed by NYPD.  Unlike the Sean Bell case where he was unarmed, this kid was carrying a loaded .38-caliber semiautomatic along with an extra clip!  He started running once the cop car pulled up.  Do you THINK this was an innocent person? I don't think so.  The Sean Bell case was tragic and I do feel bad for what happened in that instance. However, if I'm suppose to feel sorry for some thug with a criminal record, you're asking the wrong person.  He was a great kid! Yeah they ALWAYS say that, because great people carry illegal weapons and are involved with drugs, sure they are.  Good riddance! Now I'm not defending the NYPD in anyway, but if the kid has a gun and refused to put it down and resists arrest then go ahead and take him out! He obviously has no respect for authority or human life.  One less piece of garbage roaming the city.  I'm not gonna feel pity for anyone crying over him, sorry, life is too short for me to feel sorry for folks who won't try to better themselves.

I promise my next entry will be a little more lighthearted.

I'm very scared

Parishiltonsucks707009Since she's been hanging out with the best mother to ever walk the face of the earth, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton says she wants to have four babies by the time she's 30.   I know it's, like, illegal and stuff to murder, but I think it's justified if someone takes her out now, not now but RIGHT NOW! No good can come out of that clump of pink matter.

I'm being too hard on her am I? She thinks she would be a good mother and why not?  Sharing some of her brillance with everyone, she explains why she would make a great mom, "I look after animals, so I’d have a lot to give my kids." Wow. Just make sure you feed them twice a day and take them for regular walks to go to the bathroom, you're all set!

Maybe BS isn't a good example to follow.  Page 6 has reported that Los Angeles Department of Children & Family Services have been trying to get a hold of Spears after being seen partying a little too much and not believing in wearing underwear.  Yuck! I can't imagine her hooha looking too appealing anyway. Cover that up!

Cases like these two just add to why I choose not to have children.  It's said all the time that you need a license to drive but not to have children.  Anyone can pump out kids but not everyone can raise them.  I don't want to compete with mothers who don't care about their children and let them get away with murder, literally.  I can't imagine someone like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton ever being decent parents, ever.

Family Found

I was happy this morning when I turned on the news and learned that the Kim family was found alive but still sad that the father, James Kim is still missing.  I hope they find him and he's ok. Its a miracle that after nine days stuck in the snowy mountains that Kati and her children are alright. A lot of bloggers, especially in the craft community, have been watching this closely.  Kati Kim is owner of a couple of SF boutiques, Doe and Church Street Apothecary . James Kim is a Senior Editor for CNet News.com.   I just hope this has a happy ending.  I know it doesn't often happen in the news but it does every now and then.

I always thought Brooklyn was eh

Well this is interesting and I had no idea this was going on. It seems like Brookyn is the new Manhattan! but in a bad way, in a I can't afford to live in Brooklyn! I'm moving to Manhattan where it's cheap! What?  Leave it to hipsters to just ruin a good thing.  Not that Manhattan is getting cheaper, but I guess you're suppose to get more of your money's worth on this tiny island than in any of the other boroughs.  Could this be in the end of urban-renewal in New York? I can only hope but probably not.  I'm one of the few natives that wishes NYC would go back to being the rotten apple.  The type of NYC  you see in The French Connection and Taxi Driver.   New York had so much charm and character back then, now it's just lame and boring. It was even recently annouced that Astroland in Coney Island has been purchased.  The Wonder Wheel and some of the other rides are staying but everything else around it? We'll just have to see.

Heh!

The New York Post never disappoints with the lame front page. Not that I am defending said bimbos, but there's gotta be some real news going on somewhere.
