I had a lot of fun and spent a good amount of time checking everything out making sure I didn't miss a thing. Just as I was about to leave I took a peak at booth from Tall Glass Prints and walked out of there with a new top and a hat for only $20!!! That's insane!!! Anyway, go check out my Flickr set!

I'm not bitter

Yup! This weekend is The Renegade Craft Fair again and even though I didn't get in, of course I'm still gonna go. I just hope it doesn't rain like they say it might. "They" meaning those who get paid to be WRONG 98% of the time. I will be there camera in hand. Some folks from The {NewNew} will be selling and I plan to stop by the usual spots to stock up on stuff (ie: Biggs & Featherbelle). Rain or shine, it will be a good time!

In shop talk, I received an Etsy convo from a business asking if I would willing to make FORTY (that's 4-0) of my Daisy Ring. I respectfully turned them down because 1)I only have 1 flower cap and white button to work with, 2)That's a lot of gluing, 3)I've been offered stuff like this before on a smaller scale and it always falls apart so I will not even put in the energy into it this time around, and 4)Poor timing on their part unfortunately.

I have less than two months left at my current job and I'm trying to wrap things up there.  I would like to take a nice vacation with the boyfriend in August (it's our SEVEN year anniversary!) but I have not decided where yet.  He's open to just about anywhere. I have a few places in mind but it doesn't help to turn on the news every night and hear about how much the air travel industry is deteriorating. I don't want to spend half of my vacation at JFK!! Decisions decisions.

Sweet Finds

I don't think I show off enough of the sweet finds I score myself on Etsy. I took this photo yesterday wearing a necklace from The Tiny Fig.

Sweet Figment necklace - SPT 05.22.08

Have you checked out the new blog from The Tiny Fig? Sweet Figmnets?  She has a contest for a $20 gift certificate so make sure you pay a visit.  It's a great read!

Speaking of contest, I usually never win anything until ONE TIME I entered for a free card from Paper Chick and I won. I'm terrible because I should have posted this when it happened. I don't know why I didn't, but here is my prize! Better late than never!

Papergirl

I'm saving that for someone special.

For those of you in the states, have a wonderful holiday weekend!!

Ahoy Matey!

Picture_3Ok so I didn't win the Pirate giveaway over at A Fanciful Twist but this makes up for it. Tizzalicious featured my Mod Anchor Earrings today as part of her nautical theme.  If her blog is not already on your blogroll or book marked, head on over there now and do it!  She has a fantastic Etsy shop worth checking out too.

How to make a bottlecap magnet

Check out my tutorial at The {NewNew} Etsy Team Blog on how to make bottlecap magnets. I might be shooting myself in the foot posting this. These are a pretty popular shop item but it's my contribution to the Earth Day theme the blog has kept this month. Ya know, recycle, reuse, all that crap! :)  Seriously though, I have been wanting to post a "How To.." for a while now and this was the perfect opportunity.  While you're there, check out the other great entries posted by other team members.  Craftzine.com has already picked up a couple of the stories so woohoo go team!!

Look at that fruit salad for $3.99!!!

Keeping it sweet

Two post in one day? Impossible! But I could not resist since it goes with the *theme* for today.  I love the current Etsy front page (click for larger view)!

Renegade 2008

Thercf

It is time to start thinking about the big craft fairs for 2008 and applications are now being accepted for the Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fair this June.  I really like to try to get in this year but I prefer to share a space and split the cost of the booth rental. Any takers? You guys know what I do and it doesn't have to be same thing, it could be something completely different.   It's something to think about. :)

Big Ass Craft Review

Baboc It's up!  The book review I have written for the upcoming book, The Big Ass Book Of Crafts by Mark Montano.  I absolutely loved going through this book and I want to try so many new projects, I just don't know where to start! It makes my head spin.  It is just an overall very inspirational book and I think a must have for anyone who wants to spice up their decor.  Not to mention Mark is the nicest guy!! He has a boutique in the city that I must check out some time.  His show, 10 Years Younger is going prime-time on TLC, good for him!!!

Just as soon as I finished this piece I now already have another assignment which I can't wait to get started on but I feel a headache coming on as I write this (uh oh) so I better not think about working on anything else until this passes.  I have to say I really love writing for Venuszine.com.  Not to toot my own horn, but I think my writing has come a ways.  I would love to become an editor for either a yoga or diy type of publication one day.  Who knows where this life will take me.

Busy Bee

Girl20craft I was working my not-so-little toosh last night getting ready for my Grand Re-Opening on Monday.   I put a few things together that I'm pretty happy with.  I really feel like I've found my nitch and look forward to seeing what more I bring out.  My stuff is definitely more catered to the younger crowd and Punk Rock Mom's who don't want to grow up. :) I'll be working on more stuff throughout the week.  I didn't want to do it all in one night.

I want to keep this blog light-hearted but I wanted to express some thoughts on what is going on with the current election. There has been a lot of pressure for the last 4 years to already choose the next president. I know we are dying to get the current administration out of office but let's stop and think here for a minute.  Let's not make the same mistake we made before.  As of right now, I don't like any of the candidates. I lost track of who supports what a long time ago.  I need to get back into the game and read up on where these folks stand with issues that are important to me.  Then again, is it how they REALLY feel? All these folks flip-flop depending on who is in the room.  This really sucks.  I wish I could go back to the days of being a kid when things like this didn't mean anything to me.

I will say that I am concerned about the "young/first-time" voters who are jumping on the Obama wagon.  I hate how easily manipulated they are by the media. Journalist will use terms like "Rockstar reception" and they just eat it up saying "Yeah! He's young like us! I'm voting for him!" Um no, he's closer to my age than yours and I don't think I can relate to him.   Besides being charasmatic, he hasn't shown me anything.

Honestly, if I can mesh John Edwards and Mike Huckabee into one Huckawards creature, I would. Either way, I'm still skeptical about everyone.

Bust Craftacular 2007

Originally uploaded by Marilyn P. Sushi

I went to the Bust Craftacular. It was INSANE!  I felt like I was at a horror convention because it was soooo packed! I knew this was going to be good when I stood online outside for 20 minutes just to get in.  I walked away with some neat treats:

  • -A cupcake candle from MrsTattooedGeek
  • -A top for my niece by Fort Cloudy
  • -Lip balm from My My
  • -Soap from Biggs & Featherbelle, I ALWAYS get soap from them.
  • -Some Mango Papaya yumminess from Lollibomb.

I took a couple of pictures, not too many because it was just to crazy, but you can check them out on my flickr.

    Blythe Dolls

I missed out on the Blythe Doll bandwagon and I think it's too late for me to start now.  The last thing I need right now is a NEW interest. While browsing websites like Etsy and DaWanda, I have come across some gorgeous Blythe Doll images. Maybe it's not too late? Help me understand this Blythe doll culture that I am out of touch with!

I love the pink hair! I wish I could still have pink hair but those days are long gone for me.  Unless I quit my day job which would be incredibly foolish to do at the moment.

On the craft front I've hit a wall.  Uninspired.  Don't feel like making anything. I just wanna sell what I have by the end of the year that way when I come back in February, I'll have all brand spankin' new stuff.  I've been paying for advertising that I hope in turn will pay me back.  I just did the numbers for the month of October and YEOW! Talk about being in the red. I know that it takes away the fun of being crafty and creative but I'm a tool, an uptight tool, and too organized for my own good!

    Let the Holiday Shopping Begin!!!

GOOD NEWS! The Indie Collective 2007 Holiday Gift Guide is out! Guess who has a spot under "Accessories"?

Yup! There's me featuring my pinup girls, how exciting!!! So why not click this cute little button below and start browsing all the great listings?

And what perfect timing! Have you checked out Buyhandmade.org? It is a website devoted to folks looking to pledge to make handmade item purchases for the holidays and always really. Click below to find out more and to check out others who have taken the pledge and view their shops.

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

Seriously, there are SO many great shops to support. I'm going to do my best to do my part although there are some people in my life where it might be kind of difficult to shop for outside of a big name store, it's a shame.

Last but not least, you don't need to do all of your shopping online. A whole bunch of neat craft fairs are coming up and I'm happy to say that Pulp Sushi is a sponsor for the 1st Annual Handmade Parade brought to you by the Norfolk Craft Mafia. No I won't be there selling (maybe next year) but I wanna get the word out if you are in the area of Norfolk, VA the weekend of November 10th, this is worth checking out as a lot of very cool folks will be there. Click this flier for a list of vendors...

    Happy Monday!

Kissinggrn2 The birdies are back! I just added this necklace today, go see!

You know how those Chinese take-out containers are soooo popular now? They come in funky colors and patterns, I have a couple at home I was saving for Christmas. I was thinking about maybe doing something with those in the shop. Kind of like a grab bag of magnets (5), earrings, bracelet, buttons and charge $18-20 for it. A "Pulp Sushi Take Out!" box if you will. I gotta think about it some more.

I can't believe I stayed up and watched the entire playoff game. I'm a New Yorker, what do I care if the Red Sox win? Well I figure if a NY team can't make it to the World Series, my second favorite city might as well.

    Storque!!

I got a spot in the Etsy Storque Showcase. The Storque is Etsy's new webzine talking about the goings on in Etsy Land and the craft community. I got a shot of my black birdie necklace on the main page. Anyway, my item will be up for the next 24 hours so if you miss it, maybe next time.

Click above to go straight to the Showcase

On the Ebay front, I still have my auctions going on. Bracelets and earrings, like these....

And one last annoucement, Hey Pretty Cupcake is now accepting all major credit cards. Just check out like normal and enter all your information. Entering your credit card is 100% safe and will never be used for anything else!!

    Busy Bee

I'm happy to annouce that the new online boutique, Kiss My Style is selling some of my marble magnets. Make sure you check it out, and not just for my magnets but to see the other lovely items. Stuff for the home, your kids, and to pamper yourself! Keep this shop in mind when this holiday season. Here are the latest added to my shop, click the image to view more details...

Don't you love that green? I love that green.

So I am working sooooo hard to not have a meltdown. I am so glad I have yoga tomorrow. I am trying not to think about it too much but instead just chug along one action at a time.

What the hell am I talking about? I have two places interested in selling my stuff. One is a monthly craft fair in San Francisco, the other is a store opening in Ohio later this month.  So I'm all "Yeah! I'll do it!" but then afterward discovered that I'm in this all by myself! I don't have assistants, even if I asked friends to help, I like things done a certain way and it would take me longer to give them instructions on how to do it rather than to just do it myself.

I gotta pace myself. That is another thing I'm learning, know my limits! Prioritize! One thing at a time because sometimes, looking at the big picture may kill me. I think I'll just tackle these two sellers and lay off any new consignments until next year, that's if the Holidays don't wipe me out completely.  *eep!*

    Updates and escaping death

New stuff added, click above to check them out.

I almost got ran over by not one but TWO taxi cabs this morning. I was paying attention, the drivers just didn't care. When the city shuts down certain streets for the big UN summits, everyone else drives around like a madman, moreso than usual that is. Oh well, I made it to work in one piece. Now go buy something. :)

    September 21, 2007

    Now @ HPC!

    Check it!
My first consignment is a go! Maybe two more in the works. These particular items you can order directly from the Hey Pretty Cupcake website. Depending on how that goes, I might send them more stuff to sell for me. It's a pretty cute shop with some other sweet items I'm sure would cater to a lot of you. :)
