Keeping it sweet

Two post in one day? Impossible! But I could not resist since it goes with the *theme* for today.  I love the current Etsy front page (click for larger view)!

Sugartreasury

It's got The Black Apple, Every Little Thing and Bake & Destroy (Cupcakes & Yoga Blog Buddy), it's a who's who!!!

Friday Etsy Finds - Danae's Bath & Body

After lusting after all of these sweet finds this past month, one would feel pretty guilty and dirty with naughty cravings because you know you want more!  Here is a nice way to make that transition.  The final sweets find for this month is danaesbathandbody.etsy.com.   Sorry, you don't eat these either, or wear them, you lather yourself with them!

Cupcake fills your tub with lots of frothy, fragrant bubbles and releases cocoa butter into the bath water. You will leave the tub feeling soft, relaxed, and decadent.

Come to mama!!!!

THURSDAY Flickr Favorites

I looooove doing Friday Flickr Favorites and I usually participate and post my faves on my Livejournal and MySpace blog, however this site doesn't get any love because I prefer to keep Friday for the Etsy Finds.

So I have made the executive decision to do Friday Flickr Favorites a day early! Thursday Thlickr Thavorites! No that doesn't sound right, I just can't think of a catchy name for it. Expect to see more of these. This week?

Flickr Faves

1. Sunday morning manoevres, 2. promises in the dark, 3. thrifty favourites, 4. Zuinji, 5. Hindi Red, 6. Maneki, 7. MAC for Fafi Fafinette Dolls, 8. osaka_walk 1, 9. Japan Pose Doll w/ doggie, 10. blacksburg reflections, 11. Coffee at Little City, 12. cute puffer fish ornament, 13. Flowers, 14. Purdie Birdie Pincushion, 15. earrings all done!, 16. haruda! haruda!, 17. Untitled, 18. Red Eye Tree Frog, 19. I Support Everyone's Troops, 20. Heart-sprinkled pink paper rolls, 21. Cedar-Riverside, 22. sigh, 23. Waiting for the sled to come, 24. dust off your f**k me pumps, 25. from my little garden :P

Created with fd's Flickr Toys.

Colors have been inspiring me more and more and I have loved photography ever since I was in junior high school. This is such a fun flickr toy to play with. You can look at an image on it's own and appreciate it but when you group it with other unique photos, it almost takes on a whole new look.

More fair talk

Thercf So I did it and today submitted myself for this year's Renegade Craft Fair. Now I have to wait until April 11th to see if I got in. It feels like a thousand years from now!  I'm very excited about this, even if I don't make it, I tried and there will always be other shows.  One of my goals for 2008 was to finally do a craft show.  Ok I'm not gonna talk too much about this because I am a little superstitious and I do not want to jinx anything.

Oh! I just read today that this Friday, Etsy will be on Martha Stewart. I was very excited to read about this and can't help but think about the possible potential business it can bring, c'mon you can't help but think about it right??? So if you're around, make sure you watch! I unfortunately will be at work but I'm sure there will a YouTube clip of it surfacing from the EtsyLabs soon.

So how is everyone today? I have a yoga class tonight which I am so looking forward to. I'm also reading a new yoga book so I got a lot of yoga on the brain.

Om mani padme om.

UPDATE! I cannot keep this to myself. I am just so overwhelmed that I must share this. Have you visited Design For Mankind? This is a blog I came across recently and it has become one of my daily visits. Not only are the entries fabulous, but she also puts out a e-zine that is free to download!!!!

Click me to view! I already printed it out and read through it during my lunch break. Fabulous stuff!

Ideas....

You may (or may not) notice ongoing tweaking going on with this site (like the new "Vote For Pulp" rating system). Every day I love this blog more and more and just like with a child, you feel like it has so much potential and you want to bring out the best in it.  I'm thinking about adding more weekly features to this site along with Friday Etsy Finds, there are six other days in the week after all.  I have a few ideas brewing in my head, stay tuned for that!

I'm still wondering what to do with my life and where to go when I leave my job this summer. I don't know if I want to stay in Human Resources, I'm kinda burnt out on HR actually.  I want to use this an an opportunity to do something different and actually pursue something that I am passionate about. I can't let fear and apprehension stop me.  Of course I would love to just  work from home and be my own boss but the Etsy shop isn't enough for me to get on by. I wish it was but I'm not quite there yet.  I would love to blog for a living too, who wouldn't? :)

I got a lot of thinking to do.

On another note, let me share my latest Etsy purchase from Stoopidgerl...

Sushi necklace for a Sushi Gal

It's her resin Sushi necklace, I'm not wearing it, I'm holding it with chopsticks.  That's me trying to be witty, har-dee-har!

Renegade 2008

Thercf

It is time to start thinking about the big craft fairs for 2008 and applications are now being accepted for the Brooklyn Renegade Craft Fair this June.  I really like to try to get in this year but I prefer to share a space and split the cost of the booth rental. Any takers? You guys know what I do and it doesn't have to be same thing, it could be something completely different.   It's something to think about. :)

Friday Etsy Finds - Robin's Jewelry Box

Usually I try to keep the FEF's to newer Etsy shops but how could I possibly have a "Sweets" theme month and not mention Robin's Jewelry Box???

Robin1  Robin2

Robin3  Robin4

These are INSANE!  I see a lot of polymer clay charms and they're good, real good! It is definitely a skill I do not have.  Robin's Jewelry Box really takes the art to a new level of mouth watering, taste bud tingleyness<--my word.   Cakes, cookies, ice cream, and even healthier charms for you veggie lovers out there, but I'm not here to talk about vegetables! It's all about the sweet tooth.

What better to go with dessert than coffee? Cappachino? She's got it covered too.  Grab your shopping cart and treat yourself to something decadent!

Etsy Lesson Learned

One of the things that comes up regularly at the Etsy forums is how to take good pictures of your items.  How do you take close ups without it being blurry, how do you make the lighting work?  We all know how important it is to have the best image of your item posted for sale.  Recently I posted a pair of earrings and I just was NOT happy with the way it looked, observe:

Aquared1

This was taken at night in my bedroom at an art desk using the overhead lamp connected to the desk.  There was MUCH photoshopping done to make the white background look not so yellow.  I didn't use a flash because it made the blue beads glow.  A lot of "curve" adjustments were made and I still wasn't happy with the buttery look.  So I decided to retake them...

Img_2848 Img_2850

Much better don't you think? What a difference night and day make. The newer pictures were taken Saturday afternoon, also in my bedroom but beside the window. It was a very sunny day so I kept the blinds shut (not open, don't want TOO much sunlight) but the natural light was still pretty good.  Once again, no flash used.  A little tweeking in Photoshop with the brightness but not too much.  So don't be afraid to experiment with natural light. Even if it is a cloudy day, sometimes overcast daylight can make colors look even richer.

Oh by the way, these earrings are listed here in case you're interested. :)

My Weekend....

Here in the U.S. we had a holiday yesterday, President's Day, so I had a long weekend to just relax (hence the lack of entries since Friday). Relaxation and no stress. It didn't quite work out that way but I'm over it. Since there is nothing new with me, I have been doodling around and checking out my favorite blogs and wanted to share what some others have been up to...

  • A Fanciful Twist has you thinking about green with St. Patrick's Day Card downloads and a How To for a cute Shamrock brooch.
  • Blissfully Domestic has launched today. Blissfully Domestic online magazine is dedicated to making family life easier. From parenting, to fashion to cooking -we are here to make your life easier! It is a place to come and learn about running a home, and doing it well. Not Martha Stewart-like. Realistically. We are real women, with real ideas. We have so much more to offer than just homekeeping!
  • Indulgences helps you with growing out your hair. Something I struggle with ALL THE TIME.  It is a very slow process when you have naturally curly hair.
  • They really know how to embrace President's Day over at Naughty Secretary Club.
  • Picky Palate still makes my mouth water. Her latest is a recipe for Puffy Peanut Butter Cup and Cheesecake Swirled Brownies.
  • I am a blogaholic but I am proud.

Also please note, I'm kind of in limbo with a new look for the site, so if it looks a little funky I apologize, this site is always a work in progress. :)

Friday Etsy Finds - Poison and Antidote

It is a fact of life, sometimes the yummiest things are bad for you, luckily in this case you don't have to worry about that.  You don't eat polymer clay, you wear it!  Poison and Antidote isn't looking to harm anyone.

    Poisonantedote1 Poisonantedote2

But it is tempting isn't it? Just look at the glaze on the Chocolate Charm Bracelet. This adorable shop is helping this Jersey Girl through college! Go pay her visit, pick up a treat, and keep tabs with her with her LiveJournal Community and her DeviantArt Profile.

    ==========================================================================

I noticed there is something funky going on with my links.  I usually have it set up in alphabetical order but it's coming out wonky.  No it is not set up in order of preference. I love all the "Pulp Reads" sites.  Speaking of which, one of the latest links added is DIY City. It is a new online magazine that launched yestserday.  I can proudly say that last night I sat at my computer and went through every single page. The first issue focused on New York, the next issue will be New Orleans.  It is a very well put together site and you will find some familiar faces in there (not me but that's ok).

    Happy Valentine's day

    Happyvalentinesday

Let me start by saying I love all of you who come and pay my humble blog home a visit.   I hope all of you receive some extra special love today, whether it's from a significant other, friend, family member, or a random act of kindness from a stranger.

Today I reduced the prices on some select items from the Etsy Shop, like these items but there are quite a few more!

    Princesscharm Pnkosc1

And it wouldn't be Thursday without a mention of Project Runway. I am pretty content with the results and I already checked out everyone's final collections they showed during Fashion Week. I hate to say it, but I'm not impressed with Rami's line (I'm sorry Rami!!!!) but L.O.V.E.D. Chris'. Never has someone grown on me so quickly as he had. Talk about FUN! Go see!

    Fafi @ MAC Cosmetics

Why did I not know about this sooner?  Check out the new Fafi Collection from MAC, the colors are just too cute to pass up. I must get something!

    Fafi Fafi2

I am a BIG eyeshadow buff even though I don't wear it every day, I like owning as many colors as possible.

And this totally kills me, they are also selling little figures of Fafi's art, I must get one of these too..

    Fafidoll

Why oh why is it when I am trying to save money, so much neat stuff comes out??? It makes it hard. Real hard.

Friday Etsy Finds - Sorry I'm Late

You can forgive darling Olivera for being a little late when she brings treats like these! Continuing with this month's theme, the sweet shop for this week is SorryImLate.etsy.com

    Sorry4  Sorry2

More cupcakes than you can handle? There is no such thing!!! Charms are made with polymer clay and with fabulous attention to details.   She also offers hearts and flower jewelry.

This is a great one stop place for Valentine's Day shopping.

    Diva Designs

I've read throughout the web how annoyed a lot of fans of Project Runway were about this week's challenge. I can understand.  Creating a design for a professional wrestler, excuse me, WWE Diva, is probably not what they had in mind when they decided that they wanted to become a Fashion Designer. But whatever! Suck it up and do it!  Besides, it's not like you're creating an outfit for the Fabulous Moola (RIP), but for someone who looks like this....

    Diva

Stripper-ish? A little bit. I have followed wrestling ever since I was little and let me tell you, women's wrestling is not the same as it was 20 years ago. It's ALL glam now where you don't have to be good, you just have to LOOK good and get with some nice breast implants. If you're lucky, you get a Playboy spread out of it.

The above design belongs to Chris who won the challenge, big surprise...not. Even he admitted that it's not a big feat for him to win "the tackiest challenge". I know these "divas", not personally but I've been watching them for a few years and I have a pretty good idea of what they wear and wrestle in and I think most of the designers captured that EXCEPT for Ricky who finally got the boot! He made his diva a friggin' bathing suit that you can buy at any department store.

    Diva2

Just stop it, enough! He's gone. Let's move on.

    Big Ass Craft Review

Baboc It's up!  The book review I have written for the upcoming book, The Big Ass Book Of Crafts by Mark Montano.  I absolutely loved going through this book and I want to try so many new projects, I just don't know where to start! It makes my head spin.  It is just an overall very inspirational book and I think a must have for anyone who wants to spice up their decor.  Not to mention Mark is the nicest guy!! He has a boutique in the city that I must check out some time.  His show, 10 Years Younger is going prime-time on TLC, good for him!!!

Just as soon as I finished this piece I now already have another assignment which I can't wait to get started on but I feel a headache coming on as I write this (uh oh) so I better not think about working on anything else until this passes.  I have to say I really love writing for Venuszine.com.  Not to toot my own horn, but I think my writing has come a ways.  I would love to become an editor for either a yoga or diy type of publication one day.  Who knows where this life will take me.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Etsy? As the site gets bigger it starts to get a little more snarky but there are still some very helpful and supportive folks on there. **heart!**

    Friday Etsy Finds - Jennysbakeshop

Valentine's Day is around the corner, c'mon on don't be a grumpy guss and suck your teeth.  It's ok if you don't have a Valentine, nothing wrong with loving yourself, just be careful where you do it, you might get arrested.  Anyway, Valentine's Day for me makes me think of sweets!  That's where my mind is at!  So for this month, all the Friday Etsy Finds are gonna have a sweet tooth theme. Let's begin!

While browsing the Etsy treasuries, I came across Jenny's Bake Shop. Then I realized that these are the same folks from the blog, Everyday Is A Holiday! DUH!  So I'm very happy to make them the FEF for this week.

Have no fear! There are no extra pounds to be gained paying them a visit.  Jenny & Aaron provide vintage, bakery inspired artwork to add to your retro decor.  I know a couple of gals personally who I can see drooling over their items.

They have appeared in publications such as Country Living, Country Home, Woman's Day decorating ideas, and were featured on NBC's The Today Show.  Now they can add the prestigious Pulp Sushi to their resume! *snicker*  Oh I'm just being silly, have a cupcake!
