Happy Buddhas are BACK!!

I know it's been a while, but the Happy Buddha is back in the Etsy shop.  There are currently three available.  Within minutes of posting the Black Buddha it sold so I quickly made another one and posted it this morning. :) 

Did anyone else catch the Etsy Success Symposium on Friday? I watched a couple of the seminars online, good stuff! One of the many things I took away from the day was photos (which kept coming up in EVERY presentation) so I applied some of that to these items.

I don't think I will be using props in all of my items photos but only when I feel something works with it.

They also mentioned that it's good to have at least one product photo with just a white background in case an Editor is interested in a product photo.  This is not the greatest shot but remember, these are all iphone pics. 

Besides photos, they discussed how to tell your story in your shop and your items, how to approach blogs and publications, using Pinterest, how to get found and featured on Etsy, it was a lot of information to take in. I wish I could have been in there in person. I hope Etsy will stream the videos again soon in case you missed it.

 

More New Lily Flowers (& Thank You)!

First off, I want to thank you for the comments left in yesterday's post. I know it was a little wordy but the encouragement left on the blog and my Facebook is *SO* greatly appreciated! ♥♥♥

I'm happy to have more stud earrings back in the shop.  I have a couple more I would like to add but the colors are kind of hard to photograph and I can't quite get it to match on Photoshop so I may just leave those as in person exclusives (?).  I will definitely have them at the Bust Spring Craftacular which is less than three weeks away!  I guess I'm as ready as I'll  ever be at this point.  I will bring everything I have but since I'm sharing the space, I'm not sure how much I can have out but it's gonna be a good day.  Even though it's indoors, I hope the weather will be nice.  SoHo is pretty busy when the weather is crummy but when it's nice, it's super bustling.

I'm really trying to work on more braclets. I just don't have enough of them.  I worry that I might be making them too small. So far I have received no complaints but on average I make them around 8 inches, does that sound right? My wrists tend to run small.  They're all easily adjustable.

Blog::Vintage Beads From Europe & Mrs Roper

How do these two things tie together? It's very simple. :)

I was recently approached by Vente from the new online shop Vintage Beads from Europe.   She asked if she could send me some samples to check out.  Over the years she has put together a collection of vintage beads ranging from the 50's through the 1980s.   When I received my beads I was pretty giddy.  I saw these green beads and knew right away I wanted to make a pair of earrings with them (which are now available on Etsy).

They reminded me of something Mrs Roper from Three's Company would wear....

I have wanted to do something in honor of her.  Growing up I watched Three's Company and she would always wear these obnoxiously bright and colorful long mumu type dresses with CRAZY beaded jewelry to match.  It was quite awesome, and I think she would totally wear these earrings so I named them after her.

I hope to make more items featuring beads from Vintage Beads From Europe.    Vente has a nice collection of glass, plastic and jewelry findings at very reasonable prices.  Check her out and tell her that Pulp Sushi sent ya!

Ain't No Party...

 
Like an Etsy Craft Party! I am totally playing hooky from work today so I can head up to Hudson, NY with Gwen from Beyond The Picket Fence to Etsy's newest office space and customer service locale. Hopefully we'll be able to check out the town as I have never been to Hudson before and neither has Gwen.

If I'm not mistaken, we will be making recycled planters, indoor and outdoor containers for plants of all kinds, garden markers, terrariums, sewn fabric planter bags, window boxes and more. They'll have dirt, plants to share, some tools and lots of supplies, but all are encouraged to bring objects of interest, plant material, tools and decorative supplies.   I plan to destash some things and I have some mason jars I think would be fun to work with.  I'll definitely share how this goes next week.  Are you going to any of the Etsy Craft Party Meetups happening today?

I had a fantastic weekend! Thankfully the weather held out for my team's craft fair yesterday. I spent a good couple of hours hanging out with the HV team . It was so nice just going to a show and having the freedom to just walk around and hang out as oppose to working your booth.  I had to get some more handmade soaps while I was there because it is my one guilty indulgence.

The top bar is from Beyond The Picket Fence, the bottom is from Lu Lu's Soap Co.  I still get so excited about handmade soaps. It's all I've been using for almost three years now and it's hard to go back to commercial soap now.  I'll share more pictures from the show later this week.

New Flower Rings

New Big Rose Rings have been added in the last couple of days.  Now available in Silver, Plum and bright Red.  These rings are so fun!  Big enough to get noticed but not obnoxiously big to get caught on stuff.

Yesterday was a super good day for the Hudson Valley Etsy Team.  The team was featured in the Etsy Finds newsletter, right on top!

Don't get the Etsy Finds newsletter, click this link to view it (I hope it works, it's a crazy link).  I've joined a couple of teams but this team is special and dear to me because it's the only team where I can actually see the other members in person and it's really taking steam in the last year and I think 2011 is gonna be a great year for the group.  After the success of the Holiday show back in December - the teams first event, we're now working on a Spring show, hooray go team!

 

Large Rose & Art Shows

I added this Large Plum Rose Necklace to my Etsy shop over the weekend.  My boyfriend made up a couple of flowers for me and I like how the larger flowers stand out hanging solo on a chain.  At least I like how this necklace looked on me.  I wish I could take pictures of myself modeling necklaces like I have in the past with some of my other pieces but since my surgery, I'm a little subconscious about some of my scars that are visible on my neck.  I don't want to distract anyone from the item.  Maybe I should see if any of my friends want to model for me? Anyway,  I would like to add a couple more like this in other colors.  What do you think? 

I took in a lot of great art this weekend.  A great new place opened in Poughkeepsie called Darkside Records & Gallery so we checked that out, walked out with a couple of new cds that are hard for us to find elsewhere, score!

Extra bonus is getting to see lots of cool folk and socialize.  When was the last time I hung out at a RECORD STORE for crying out loud???  They will be featuring new artwork every month so I'll definitely be making more trips back there.

Speaking of art shows, I will be part of a Valentine's Day show at Cornell St Studios for a show called "Romance In Art & Music".  My shelf in the gallery has been updated with new merchandise.

Red & Pink Galore!! What's also neat about this show is that my boyfriend is a part of it! He will have a couple of his art on display too. I'm so excited for both of us. 

He's totally gonna kill me for taking this photo ha ha!  That's him helping Renee the curator of the show putting up his stuff (not shown here).   It's definitely gonna stand out.   Valentine's Day weekend, can't wait!

Mix Tape

Happy Monday everyone! Turns out my Yellow Needle Felt Heart necklace was included in an Etsy newsletter this weekend. Thank you Etsy! 

I noticed a lot of people adding this item on my Activity Feed and just adding my shop their favorites.  More than usual.  I asked about it on Facebook, that's when I found out.  I swear the Activity Feed is the *BEST* feature Etsy has added to their site.  I am checking it constantly and like seeing who my friends are adding too.

I used all of the extra attention to add a few more items to the shop like this necklace, this cold weather is making me think of SPRING!

 

New Direction

After my Clearance/Sale annoucement yesterday, I was blessed with a few sales and even reached a milestone 500th item sold on Etsy! Thank you Ms. Tallahassee, FL - your package is on the way with extra goodies included. :)

I must confess that my weekend was not so great and a little upsetting.  Although I did have an epiphany of sorts. It's all about being true to yourself and what you (as the designer) like to make. If you start to lose that vision, it stops being fun and it hasn't been fun for me. I will continue to make jewelry but after four years of producing certain styles of work, I'm taking Pulp Sushi in a different direction. It's been long overdue and I hope those of you who have been around will continue to like what I have to offer. 

So, I wanted to share a few more items that have been marked down on Etsy.

Gerbera Daisy Flower Hairpins

It has been a long while since I had hair pins in my shop so these were posted this past weekend.  Who doesn't like to have flowers in their hair?  These are the only colors I have available.

I was happy to wake up this morning to an Etsy sale. I'm currently at 494 sales. Hope I can reach the milestone of 500 soon, I'll even include a little something extra. :)

New Etsy Banner

On my continuing quest to make my shop stand out in the ginormous sea of Etsy jewelry sellers, I made a new banner.  Hopefully it reflects what one would expect from my shop before you scroll down. The first couple of seconds of a first impression is the most important in determining whether someone will to continue check out your shop or move on.  Of course the impression I want people to have is "Oooh! This looks fun!" and scroll down.  I hope to have more new items to share on Monday.

The walk to work this morning was quite delightful. The heat wave in New York seems to have broke and I walked out of the train station greeted by rain and a cool breeze. *Sigh* On most days I discourage seeing rain if I have to be outside but we really needed it. I don't like looking at brown grass.   They say there will be thunderstorms throughout the day. Looks like my lunch will be a Cup O' Noodle from the magazine stand downstairs. Good thing I find them tasty! Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm thinking about just closing shop now just to make sure I have enough inventory for both dates. Just a thought, don't know if I'll actually do it.   To say that I am excited is an understatement. I am straight-up freaking out!!! I applied with the idea of not getting in.  I was use to the rejections from Renegade.  This was my first time applying for this show and I got lucky! =D

BIM recap and new goodies

I was so looking forward to selling at the Brooklyn Indie Market again this past Saturday, unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and it was a washout.  Thankfully I was in a huge tent that kept everything dry but it kept a lot of folks indoors most of the day so I didn't have many sales. Maybe being a holiday weekend was a factor too? 

At least I was in very good company with sellers like Wabisabi, LuCrafts, and Nine Cakes (yum!!).  I was starting to think that me and BIM just aren't meant to be but NO I would love to do it again. I love the idea behind this market and it is in a great location that is pretty easy to get to where I live (it took us under an hour to get there).  I hope I can do more dates in the Summer after I move (lease is up at the end of June).  My first time there was COLD, this time was wet and a little chilly.  Maybe a 3rd time will be the charm?

Naturally the sun starts to come out as everyone is packing up, thanks for showing up Sun! *shakes fist*  I did try on a bunch of cool hats from Rocks & Salt and got some delish cupcakes out of the day. We stayed in the city that night so later on in the  evening, the boyfriend and I tried a burger place in the city that lived up to the hype. :)

With BIM behind me, it is now time to prepare for the next show, the Spring Handmade Cavalcade with The {NewNew} team which means it will wreak of awesomeness.   Lots more stuff to make!!
