Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm a day early but I may be a bit busy preparing for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.  We are hosting my boyfriend's parents, pretty low key but it's still a lot to do.  I will be making my WORLD FAMOUS Butternut Squash

Only world famous in my head as I've only cooked this once before. It was a success so it's a pretty big deal for me, I can't cook lol.   Just brown sugar, cinnamon and butter, nothing fancy but still pretty tasty.  Another favorite from Thanksgiving....

Stuffing!  I can honestly just eat a plate of stuffing and be happy, real talk!  And I don't only just eat this during November either.  Not sure what we're doing for dessert, I don't care for Pumpkin Pie. It stems back to one Thanksgiving where I got sick, I will spare you the details.  I do love me some Pecan Pie though.

Heat that up, put some Vanilla Ice Cream on top = heaven!

Today I took the day off so I can relax a little and get ready for my shows starting next Friday.  I will be back on Friday. It's my post-Thanksgiving tradition to not step foot outside on Black Friday.  People are kind of crazy that day.  So for those celebrate, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Blog::Must Love Dogs

I love dogs so much!  I didn't grow up with any because my parents weren't too crazy about them. I always wanted a dog, they always said no.  My boyfriend experienced the opposite, he seemed to have always lived with a pet dog and I'm jealous of that.  This weekend we checked out the Meet The Breeds show and it was like being in a big petting zoo. I was so happy. I took SOOO many pictures on my phone, I'll just leave the link to the Flickr set

I joke a lot about being old, middle-age, a hag. Most folks want to smack me on the back of the head when I do. I chuckle.  Tuesday night I went to see The Supersuckers after working all day.  I really didn't want to go as much as I like them.  I was so tired.  We went and as usual I start getting aches and pains from standing all night, probably because I sit at a desk for most of the day.  Didn't get to bed until 2:30 am, of course I had the following day off, woke up feeling like crap.  I kept telling myself "I can't do this anymore".  I use to go to shows all the time, I mean ALL the time!  

I look at things differently too.  I don't drink anymore, so when I'm at a club and I see drunk women older than me dancing around looking half-awake, I kinda think they look foolish and I feel embarrassed for them, because I see how the guys are looking at them.  I've found other things that keep me feeling young. I don't have to poison myself, I don't have to force myself to stay up and out late every week or listen to my music loud.  My sense of humor can still be a little juvenile sometimes, that will probably  never change.  I was just thinking about this while I was home the other day and how much I've changed in the last few years.  I embrace it.  It has nothing to do with turning 36 next month (THIRTY SIX!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I like my coffee, I like nights in attempting to embroider something that looks like a 3 year old did it, I wanna give "Granny Chic" a new meaning! =D

New York City! Yelp's Giftacular Holiday Market Is Coming!

Pulp Sushi for the Holidays will end with a bang at the Yelp's Giftacular Holiday Market the last weekend before Christmas, Saturday & Sunday December 17 and 18 in the SoHo section of NYC.   I love being part of something new, and I am sort of a Yelp Snob ('Marilyn P' Elite '11 in da house!) this is a happy marriage of sorts.

Embroider Everything Workshop - Book Review

I have another great book to share with you this week. Embroider Everything Workshop: The Beginner's Guide to Embroidery, Cross-Stitch, Needlepoint, Beadwork, Applique, and More

Diana Rupp, founder of Make Workshop in NYC, demonstrates how simple items can be made into something fabulous by just adding a few stitches.   I've tinkered with embroidery and cross-stitching and it's so refreshing to find a tutorial book with pizazz and attitude but still with clear instructions that's great for beginners.  Lots of photo references and diagrams too if you're a visual person like myself. I need to SEE what is being instructed. :)

The book is divided into two parts.  Part 1 is the Basics that introduces you to the embroidery technique from freehand and applique to needlework, smocking, openwork, beadwork, cross-stitch and more.   Part 2  are the Projects.  It has instructions that will put what you learned in Part 1 to use.  Plenty of cool projects like Light-as-a-Feather Doorstop, Needlework Necklace, Kimono Baby Booties and a Peony Jewelry Box.  Also included are 48 Transfer Patterns to use (awesome!).

What's neat about this book is that none of the projects seems like it would be too hard to do.  Once you get the hang of it, maybe develop some callouses on those fingers, you'll be going crazy embroidering everyting, like your skirt!

 

 

The Art of Post-It Notes

Saturday I stopped by Dream In Plastic for their latest art show While You Were Out...A Post-It Show! And anyone was invited to contribute.  Me being artistically challenged thought "Why not?" And whipped up three pieces of "art" for the show.   It was so nice to see it all come together and the talent!

I can't take credit for any of the above.   They had a bunch of blank post-its for anyone to start doodling on and post to the wall.  Mike got in on the action...

And the results are the four blue post-its on the right. He just hammered these out in a matter of minutes. I have a hard time drawing a heart shape.

This past weekend was the Grand Opening to a new store in Kingston, NY - Karmabee!

If the name sounds a little familiar, it's because Karen (owner) has an Etsy shop of the same name and is a fellow teammate of the Hudson Valley Etsy Team.  We've done a few shows together and she's very sweet and talented.  When she shared with us that she was opening a store, we were all so happy for her.

It's a gorgeous space right on Broadway, couldn't have been in a more ideal location. Jealous of the large windows and high ceilings.  The store is also a workspace for Karen to continue her silkscreening.  I'm also happy to announce that you will find some Pulp Sushi jewelry at Karmabee!  

Here's a shot of me and my shelf.  I plan on giving her more items after the holidays.  I'm so happy for Karen and her new store!  It was really busy and it looks like folks in the neighborhood were happy to see a new business coming to the area.

I'm really trying to work on more braclets. I just don't have enough of them.  I worry that I might be making them too small. So far I have received no complaints but on average I make them around 8 inches, does that sound right? My wrists tend to run small.  They're all easily adjustable.

A lot of great gift ideas are included in this book and don't think it's just limited for the holidays. It's great for any occassion, even if you're just paying friends a visit for dinner and you don't want to show up empty-handed. I do wish there were a few more pictures in the book, especially considering how gorgeous the photography is in Gourmet Gifts.  Picture time! I took pictures from the actual book so you gotta forgive me. Overall it's a great resource to have that I am sure will come in super handy. :)

Closed for the Holidays???

I must be out of my mind but yeah in case you missed it yesterday, I mentioned that I will be closing my Etsy shop on November 30th (last day of Free Shipping) and won't be opening again until New Year's. I wanted to elaborate on that a little more.  Here's what my schedule is looking like for December:

-Thanksgiving weekend - get ready for DECEMBER!
-Friday 12/2 - Bard College Holiday Craft Fair 10 am - 6 pm
-Saturday 12/10 - HV Etsy Holiday Craft Fair 11 am - 9 pm
-Sat & Sun 12/17-18 - Yelp Holiday Market 12 pm - 6 pm
-Next weekend CHRISTMAS!

Needless to say, I need all of my merchandise on hand. I cannot participate in any more giveaways until 2012.  The Yelp show falls on my birthday weekend and the best birthday gift I can receive is to come home with an empty suitcase!

Not only will I be selling my jewelry but also items from the other sellers at Pulp Sushi.  They are sending me more items to have for sale at the shows so there will be a nice variety of gift ideas  available for everyone. Can't wait to see how everything looks together. I'll take pictures. :)

Online sales overall have been better for me this year than last but still not where I would like them to be.  I'm just going to channel my energy on these upcoming shows and hope to sell out just about everything.  I really want to start the new year with a clean slate and a new look/direction.  And I decided that whatever doesn't sell will be distributed to the retail stores I sell my merchandise in.
