Hi, I am Dara from Picksomeflowers. I make fun crocheted accessories for my shop over on Etsy. I am so excited that Marilyn allowed me this opportunity to share a fun project with you! Don’t you just love Marilyn’s funky bright jewelry? I thought we would follow her example and make this chunky fiber bracelet.
It is crocheted, but I promise you can do it! It makes me so sad when I hear people say how much they like crochet items and wish they can make them. You can!
The best part about this bracelet is it only takes the two foundational elements of crocheting: slip knot and chain stitch. We’ll take it nice and slow, promise!
You need:
- at least 16 yards of string or yarn (in whatever pretty color you prefer)
- big crochet hook (I use a 10mm)- its only a few dollars and worth the investment
- button of your choice
- sewing needle and a little thread
Let’s start!
Fold your string in half and then half again. You should have two loops together on one side. We will start with that end.
Make a slip knot, making sure to have a small loop at the end and one on top. Slip what??? Here’s how:
Fold the string circle you just made over the little loop tail.
Pull the little loop tail through the string circle.Just keep on pulling it until a knot has formed with that little loop tail sticking out the bottom.Insert your crochet hook into your slip knot.

You want the loop on the end to be just big enough to reach over your button. The loop at the top needs to be big enough to fit over your crochet hook. Take time on this step; if the end loop is too big, the button will come undone and your bracelet won’t stay on correctly. If your loop at the end is too big, you can pull on the loop at the top to make it the correct size.
Now for the fun part: Chain until the bracelet is long enough to wrap around your wrist. Insert your crochet hook into the string circle loop. The little loop tail will be sticking out on the right hand side.Wrap the string around the crochet hook from the back to the front. Using the hook part of the, well, hook, pull the string through the loop.
You will end up with one loop on your hook.

Yay! You have done one chain! Way to go. Now just repeat the chain steps until your bracelet is the desired length. The trick is to try to keep the same tension on the string as you chain. You want the size of the chain to stay consistent throughout. It’s okay if it takes you a few times of practice to get it right. My favorite part of crocheting is how easy it is to fix your mistakes. Just take out your crochet hook and pull on the string side to undo your chain. If your chain is not flat, you can manipulate it to flatten it pretty easy.
Finish off the chain by pulling the final chain stitch all the way through the loop.
Pull the string to make the knot snug. Then tie a regular ol’ knot over that first knot just to make sure it is extra secure. Trim off the extra string close to the knot.
Now push the knot back a little bit into the end so that it lies flat. This is where you are going to sew your button.
Sew on your button beauty. I use embroidery thread to sew on my button just to add some extra color. You can use whatever you prefer though.
That’s it! Wear your beautiful bracelet proudly and make more to share with others.
