Beacon Riverfest

This past Saturday was the 1st Annual Beacon Riverfest and it was a fun way to spend the day. I think for the organizers, it was a success. There was a pretty good turnout, good music and the food vendors were pretty awesome. I would have had one of everything if I could. Unfortunately, not a lot of folks came to shop. I knew that was a possibility. I had some sales so I am not one to complain for a little extra money in my pocket. I'm pretty sure this will be an annual event in Beacon but I am not so sure if I will sell there again. Next time I'll go, lay out a blanket and enjoy the music while snacking on some tasty treats.

Cranberry Cluster

New necklace posted in the Etsy shop, Cranberry Cluster. I think after pink, burgundy is probably my favorite color to work with. The chain is really nice too, very light, you hardly feel it on you.

I also wanted to give my Facebook page a quick plug: facebook.com/pulpsushi for updates. That probably gets updated more than my blog (which is in sync with) but I post shop updates and links to shows I will be doing so feel to like me!

Oh! A quick pepper update, I watered my plants after I written my post and the leaves "woke up" again.  I guess since it's been so hot I have to water them more frequently than my regular plants.  Still not sure if I need to repot them. They're growing fast!

Pepper Help?

Once again I need some help. Do I need to repot my peppers? I just got them Memorial Day Weekend. This is how big they were (see the two in the center)

Took a more updated picture of them today (see below).

The leaves look a little sad and I'm worried I am either watering them too much or not enough but I noticed peppers starting to appear on one of them!

Should I just leave them alone and keep doing what I'm doing?

Summer Challenge Prompt #1

Ok I said I wasn't going to post again until next week but I lied. The first prompt was posted at Cute Stew and thankfully, it's related to something I love, COFFEE! So I jumped on it.

Now the whole purpose of this challenge is to support local businesses, not chain places.  I think I have it kind of easy so I will probably blog about places near my home in Fishkill, NY as well checking out spots near my job in Manhattan which can totally feel like two different worlds.  Today I went to Orchard House Cafe on 1st Avenue in the shadow of the Queensboro bridge.

Iced Vanilla Latte with the driest Lemon Loaf on the East Coast. My drink was ok at least.

Someone needs to fix that one crooked picture.

I do love coffee shops and I have the Yelp Reviews to prove it. Nothing against Starbucks and DD, but they don't need any plugs from me. Orchard House is ok but the food menu leaves much to be desired. =/

Late Summer Leaf Necklace

New necklace added to Etsy and DaWanda. Isn't it pretty? Sometimes you don't know how something is going to look until you just put it all together.

I am going to go prepare for the Beacon Riverfest this Saturday.  It is a free concert being held on the waterfront and I will be there selling my Pulp Sushi goods with my friend and HVNY teammate Gwen from Beyond The PIcket Fence.  It's gonna be a day full of good food, music, scenery and hopefully good weather.  There's a threat of thunderstorm, hopefully it will miss us.  Either way, a recap will come next week. We ♥ It - Coffee

As I mentioned last week, I am moving my We ♥ It posts to Wedsnesdays, first installment: COFFEE!  I'm the type of person that still drinks hot coffee even when it's 90 degrees outside, even though I do like to indulge on an iced java but that's for later in the day. In the AM, I need a hot jolt!

I tried getting into drinking tea but it just isn't happening. The only time I'm ok drinking tea is when I am sicking and my throat is hurting. I am very fortunate to work in a place that has a *free* coffee bar and every day I get my usual. It's a coffee with skim milk and a shot of sugar-free vanilla, kept hot all morning in my chic UPS mug...yes, UPS, but it's still a cool looking mug, dig it? 

Cool Kids Support Local

Ok so it's been a few years since I've been referred to as a kid, but it's not gonna stop me from participating in this Summer Challenge from the adorable blog Cute Stew.

It's true, sometimes I go more for convenience rather than helping support the little guy although ever since I started selling my own jewelry, I have become more aware about supporting local businesses. This challenge will give me an extra push and Melly Kay is always looking for more folks to participate.

New Earrings

Still recouperating from my boyfriend's birthday weekend. It was a good time and I have a sunburn to show for it and some yummy leftover cupcakes.   I wish I was eating one right now.

Sunday I posted some new pairs of earrings in the shop. The Butterfly earrings are a bit different from what I usually make but I wanted to trying something different that is long and dangly and pow! I have had these butterflies for a while and kept running blank on ideas of what to do with them until the idea of earrings came up, duh!

We ♥ It - Candy

I'd like to leave you something sweet for the weekend. Who doesn't like a good piece of candy?  My sweet tooth is on 24/7.

Today is my boyfriend's birthday and this weekend I had a whole big thing planned for him but the place I had reserved got shut down by the city! Who plans for that?!!? So Plan B it is! Mike is Mr. Privacy so I won't go into details of the goings on but it'll be good times, good food and good friends. Have a nice weekend everyone!

In a very short amount of time, I have come close to 600 followers on TypePad! How does that even happen? Are you folks for real? Say "hello" if you are! =D

Normally I wouldn't post an entry like this but I felt it was about due to give some props to the folks at TypePad. I have been writing blogs for years under various names using various hosts (anyone remember Angelfire?) before I ended up here. Always looking to do it free of course because why I should pay to maintain a blog when there so many places I can do it for free? I can tell you from personal experience that it is so worth it! Nothing against Blogger, but a lot of times Blogger webpages will crash my browser and cause me to do a lot of fist-shaking and @#$!@$!!!!!

A lot of my favorite blogs to read are hosted on TypePad, and if I wanted to take my blogging seriously and get noticed and have people find me, it was the right decision to make.  I have had nothing but the most pleasant help and "customer service" from TypePad and recommend it to anyone who wants to start a blog for their crafty business (or personal) and wants to get noticed.

Pie Party Recap

My first pie turned out good, a little messy but still tasty. I ended up making a Crumb Apple Pear Pie. I was probably the most stressed out about the crust but here was the result.

It's topped with graham cracker crumb.  This was totally improvised.  I intended to get a pre-made crust and foolishly, I bought one that was ready to eat - the kind used for cheesecake I guess.  Didn't realize until I got home that I screwed up so I had to suck it up, get over the anxiety and make pie dough (thank god for YouTube).  I took the crust I purchased, crumpled it up and used it as my topping and it worked out perfect and tasted great with the apple and pear.  My crust was a little too thick I think but was delighted when I was told that my pie was the favorite of this one little girl who wanted two pieces.  Kids are brutally honest so I was relieved.

How cute is this little bird poking out of this pie? Every year there's more creativity in the presentations.   So much deliciousness was had.  My favorite pie was made by Sara from Rocks & Salt. New Necklaces

It's the start of a new week and I have some new necklaces to show you. These were added to Etsy yesterday. I scaled down the Cosmopolitan necklace from how it looked previously:

I think it looks much better now and wears nicer too.

I am happy to report that my first pie was a success! I will post a separate entry by mid-week with pictures of it and from the fantastic pie party. I'm already looking forward to next year!

We ♥ It - Books

There are some technological gadgets I will kindly embrace, but call me old-fashion when it comes to books. I still love them and I love having them take up space on my shelves.

Very much forward to the weekend. I am going to attempt something I've never tried before - bake a pie! Tomorrow I am going to attend my friend's 3rd Annual Pie Party and I promised myself that this year I will bring a pie (and not just eat everything).  I will share the outcome next week if it was a success or a disaster. *fingers crossed*

Smokey Love Bird

Happy Monday! Check out my newest necklace that I made and posted yesterday, Smokey Love Bird. It is posted in my Etsy and DaWanda shop.  This is not another long strand necklace, it is the standard 18 inches.  The beads are really pretty in person.  They're jade in a smokey grey-blueish tint, hence the name. :)

This weekend was the first time I was able to eat something out of my little makeshift veggie garden.   After writing a post about it last month, I went and picked up some plants. Here's a bad phone photo

From left to right is basil, green pepper, red pepper, and oregano. As of now, the only thing really edible are the basil leaves so we've been picking them and adding them do our dishes, YUM! I wish to make a tomato basil pizza some time but it's been too hot to turn on the oven.  This is my first time growing vegetables so I'm very new to this and kind of clueless.   Any tips and insight would be appreciated.

The {NewNew} on Governor's Island

I have lived in New York all of my life and have never ever EVER been to Governor's Island. It sounds like a nice enough day trip, just never made the time out for it. I may have to this Summer to check out my friends in the {NewNew} who have just opened a "Pop Up" shop for the Summer. They were featured on the local news the other night and you can see the talent that will be on displayed. The demand for quality handmade items continues to grow!

I recently stepped down from the {NewNew} to focus more on the Hudson Valley Etsy team and see them grow. I will continue to show the {NewNew} much love and support (and business!).

We ♥ It - Flower Dress

Happy Friday and HELLO to all of my new followers! Wow! Big thanks to the wonderful (and I do mean that) folks at TypePad for adding me as a blogger to follow under the "Pretty Things" category, awww! I try to keep the place nice. Anyway, welcome to my little world and I hope you'll come back.

Since I enjoyed putting together the We ♥ It collage last week, I decided to do it again this week focusing on pretty flower dresses. I love to wear dresses but finding a nice floral print can be a bit of a challenge for me. Here's some inspiration for my search.

This weekend is the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, NY and I just want to take a moment to wish my friends who will be there many sales and good times.   If you plan on going, have loads of fun!

Stormville

This weekend was the Stormville Flea Market. After sitting in some serious traffic just to get in, we finally did and guess what?  I kinda felt crappy! My head was hurting and I think the heat was getting to me. Stupid heat.  But I still had enough sense to bring home this cutie for 50¢. Doggie #2, I think I'm starting a collection.

And a long time flea market favorite of ours is fudge from Udder Ideas Fudge. Sooooo rich!

Walkway Over The Hudson

Hello and Happy 1st day of June! Can you believe it's June already? What a beautiful weekend to be out and I was! I didn't spend too much time on the computer. I was soaking in some of the nice weather here in the Hudson Valley.

Friday Mike and I went to check out the Walkway Over The Hudson.  It was an old railroad bridge that crosses the Hudson River from Poughkeepsie into Highland.   On most bridges, you have to pay a toll to cross the river (by car) and there are some bridges you can walk across but this bridge is exclusively for pedestrians. The span is 1.25 miles. We walked from one end to the other, it was a nice walk and a great river breeze.  It was a very chill walk.

This is the Mid-Hudson bridge which is really pretty lit up at night, very colorful.

Me checking out the view, the rails are pretty high and rightly so. Overall it was a low-key weekend. I'll share more about it tomorrow.
